canon: My Adventures with Superman
age: 23
canon point: Post Season 2

history:
This wiki has her background and a summary of season 1. Wikipedia has more thorough summaries of each individual episode, including season 2. Some things were revealed in a short little comic series that bridges the gap between the seasons as well as Season 2 so I'll slap some basic summaries here.

* The comic series is an unproduced episode intended for Season 1. It takes place during Christmas with Jimmy and Lois trying to surprise Clark by flying the Kents to Metropolis. Lois is grappling with everything that happened with her father from Season 1. Clark ends up butting heads with a robot (eventually named Amazo) that asks for his help and the group goes on to try and save him. In the end they can't because his power sapping abilities are threatening to consume all the energy from the earth itself. In the end Amazon's physical form must be shut down so he doesn't destroy the earth but Clark saves his memory unit and uses it to place Amazo into some temporary memory simulations so he can be safe until his inability to control his absorption powers is fixed.

* The whole comic delves into the idea of not just deciding for yourself who and what you want to be but also the ideas of change and of family. Pa talks indepth about how since Clark came to them their lives have become more and how each and every person he's brought to them from school friends to Jimmy and Lois has grown their family for the better. By the end of the comic Lois even calls her father, explaining why she spends so much of the second season trying to reconnect with him.

* In season 2 Clark and Lois spend most of the season way too busy to properly talk to each other. It leads to a whole bunch of misunderstandings.

* For Lois the primary thing she's busy with is trying to keep her father from running off and hiding like he's done her whole life. We're given more background in the episode "Two Lanes Diverged" that Lois' mother died of an illness. Just how serious her condition was wasn't revealed to Lois until her death. Her father's attempts to train her in wilderness survival (and in his view to be able to protect herself and stand on her own) eventually led to Lois feeling more and more abandoned by him. His disappearance after this episode didn't help.

* Lois is also offered a position as Vicky Vale's #2 at the Gotham Gazette. Initially she wants to talk over it with both her father and Clark but again, father disappearing constantly and way too busy to get to Clark.

* Lois' fear of further abandonment thanks to her father leaving yet again coupled with a fellow reporter telling Lois that people like the two of them don't belong in the world of people like Superman and other extraordinary humans leads her to wonder aloud to Clark why she's even bothering trying to be with him. He takes it as her breaking up with him and they're separated before Lois can clarify.

* Clark is kidnapped by his cousin and Lois is wracked with guilt over their last conversation. She's determined to rescue Clark and make things right. Along the way she's given a piece of advice she clings on to -- love is not for cowards.

* Clark ends up meeting Kara's "father" Brainiac. He uses a device to tap into Clark's mind, trapping his consciousness inside the Black Mercy so Brainiac can use his body to continue expanding the long dead Kryptonian empire. Lois steals a device and uses it to go into the Black Mercy to find Clark. There she goes through reset after reset trying to convince Clark that this isn't reality.

* They finally reconcile with Lois apologizing for trying to push him away, echoing that bit of advice from earlier -- "love is not for cowards". After this she and Clark together break themselves out of the control of the Black Mercy and Clark regains control of his body while Lois returns to her own.

* What follows is a long fight with Brainiac ending in his finally destruction at Kara's hands. Kara comes to live with the Kents in Smallville, Lois turns down Vicky Vale even though Clark supports her going to Gotham City if she wants. The season ends with Clark, Jimmy, Kara and Lois all enjoying ramen on the rooftop of the Daily Planet.

abilities:
* Investigative skills. Lois is sharp about spotting details and putting pieces of a puzzle together. When Clark is trapped inside the Black Mercy and Brainiac is in control of his body Lois doesn't need to be told a thing. She gets a look at the symbol on Clark's chest, sees the symbol on the walls around him and she steals the Black Mercy device. Does she know how it works exactly? No but she quickly understands that somehow that it's being used to trap Clark. That's all she needs in the moment.

* Looting skills. I'm not sure if you'd call Lois a pickpocket or not but this girl constantly steals badges, keycards and other devices if she thinks they can help her in any way.

* Survival skills. Sam Lane was determined that his daughter know how to protect herself and survive near anything. He took her on wilderness retreats where he taught her how to track people, use a compass, find a path, set bones and purify water.

* Combat skills. While Lois isn't exactly a hardcore fighter she does display some combat skills undoubtedly taught to her by Sam. She packs a pretty good punch when confronting Alex Luthor in the first season and then displays quick know how of how to use a gun in the second.

* Daring. Okay so she's got problems with emotional vulnerability but physically? Lois isn't against putting herself in harms way to figure something out. She gets some extreme tunnel vision sometimes but once she's hooked she doesn't often let go.

personality:
First and foremost Lois is a person who cares about those around her. From the people she calls friend and family to her entire city Lois Lane has dedicated herself to rooting out the truth and unearthing the injustices around her not simply for the chance of writing an award-winning expose (though she'd like that) but to protect others around her.

She is driven and no nonsense in her approach to unearthing the truth, unafraid to get her hands dirty and determined to show the gritter truth to the world. A lot of this is thanks to her disdain for lies and concealment. Her relationship with her father in canon is a rocky one thanks to him constantly keeping things from her ranging from his work to her mother's illness. She was constantly stuck in the dark with him and as she grew older she began to resent that fact more and more.

Hypocritically though she does lie to both Clark and Jimmy in the beginning to get them to help her investigate. Yet she does apologize for these lies and displays her willingness not only to admit to her mistakes and flaws but also to correct them. Following this early incident Lois doesn't lie or conceal anything from the pair again. She shows deep loyalty to those she calls friends and family, going to great lengths to help them. Even with her rocky relationship with her father Lois constantly reaches out to him again and again, trying to mend fences and make their relationship into what it once was when she was a child before the Zero Day incident.

Lois also tends to have tunnel vision when it comes to things she wants to accomplish. When she decides she's going after Clark when he's kidnapped she goes about hiring people who can help her steal a spaceship. Later when it turns out Clark's mind is trapped in the Black Mercy she slaps on the Black Mercy device and dives in to get him back without hesitation. Inside the Black Mercy Brainiac tries over and over to delete her but Lois refuses to leave without Clark. If there is something Lois Lane wants to accomplish she doesn't stop until she manages to do so, even if she might have down moments along the way.

Despite being driven and stubborn Lois is equally vulnerable as well. Her experiences with her father have led to abandonment issues and at one point she pushes Clark away in fear that he will inevitably leave her like everyone else she has loved. She quickly realizes what a mistake pushing him away was and it's part of what fuels her drive to find him again so she can make things right.

It's also this fear of abandonment that has made her stubbornly self-reliant. She tries to fight her way through so many things alone, from investigations to solving other problems, all on the back of her father's idea that "Lanes are doers, not complainers". As she grew up Sam Lane pressed his daughter to learn how to survive completely on her own in a misguided effort to make her strong and self-reliant. While he did accomplish that he also left Lois terrified that if she counted on someone else they would inevitably vanish and leave her stranded and helpless, just like her father did.

Lois isn't a perfect person. She is a woman who is driven and passionate about the things she cares for, who uses her sharp intuition and street smarts to press ahead to whatever goal she sets her mind to. At times she is stubborn and ruthless, capable of hurting others as she strives to crack a story or solve a mystery. She is also a person knows the worth in apologizing and actively trying to do better. While she might hurt others it's never without guilt and it's never without trying to become a better person. She accepts others at face value and is learning how to rely on others around her rather than fighting through everything alone.

CHARACTER (AU)
CHARACTER NAME: Lois Lane

SPECIES: Human
AGE: 23

APPEARANCE: Same as canon.
MODS: None just yet!

BACKGROUND:
Lois' mother died when Lois was around twelve or so from an illness that lingered for quite some time and then struck hard and fast. What it was precisely Lois has no clue. For the most part both her mother and father acted to keep her in the dark about it, wanting to save her from grief. What it did was leave Lois distrustful of others.

This wasn't helped by her father choosing to sink himself into his job. Sam Lane was part of the defense wing of the Unity Administration, fairly high ranked and very invested in seeing Tellus defended from all threats. He was very old school military in many ways and carries a chip on his shoulder for the idea of modifications. "Lanes are strong enough as they are. None of us will rely on mods, you hear me?"

He was also big on both arms, combat, self-defense and survival training. Even though he never seemed to be home when he was he put Lois through her training paces. With all that emphasis on being able to protect herself Lois figured he'd hate her going into the Science division. Instead he was weirdly thrilled and sent his daughter off with the assurance that she would be safe no matter what. It gave Lois a whole lot of mixed feelings she's still dealing with today.

Aside from this her schooling was pretty average. She got into science chiefly because she had a yearning to explore and investigate. Taking samples and doing field experiments is all part of gathering the puzzle pieces to figure out the bigger picture to her.

CREW DIVISION: Science is my first choice, Engineering is second.

DIVISION APTITUDE:
Lois is above all else a curious and driven soul. In canon she's good at investigating and putting together pieces to figure out a whole picture. She likes getting down into the trenches, getting her hands dirty and combing up with clever schemes to get her scoops. In a world where she isn't a reporter I feel like she could turn this love of putting together puzzle pieces into making new discoveries and the like.

In Engineering I feel like while in canon Jimmy is decidedly the more technical of the group in an AU like this Lois could put that love for piercing together clues into piecing together bits of technology to aid the whole system.

SUBDIVISION:
In Science, a Field Researcher would be perfect for Lois. She could definitely piece together observations in the field and research back in the labs to come up with new theories and insights.

In Engineering I feel like being a Technician would really suit her. In canon she loves jumping into the midst of things, getting down in the trenches to try to uncover evidence and clues for news stories she's chasing. In an AU like this I think she would love to get in there and get her hands dirty towards actually fixing problems.

SAMPLES
AU WORKSHOP: Link

SAMPLES:
It all starts with a gasp, an attempt to suck air into lungs that haven't had the need to do so in ... how long exactly? Days, weeks, months? They burn for a moment and it's that alongside the blaring alarms that really jerk Lois out of what could be considered the deepest sleep of her life.

She shoots up in her pod though, hands tight against the edges of it's opening. She's sitting up before she consciously recognizes it, every nerve in her body on edge and her head swimming even as a voice inside of her makes demands.

Find him. Find who? What? Him.

Lois sighs out slowly, raising one hand to plant against her forehead in an attempt to calm her whirling thoughts. Try as she might the more she focuses on this him the less her mind can hook onto one particular image. It's all so vague, no physical forms but just this sense of something missing.

Then things start snapping back into place. She's Lois Lane, 23, daughter of Sam Lane and --

"The Mnemosyne."

That's the ship she's aboard. She knows she's right about that but it doesn't feel entirely right either. Another phrase she feels like she ought to know (the Black Mercy) that she brushes away for the reality that seems to make more sense in the moment. This ship, the one she's been assigned to, on a sixty year voyage -- right?

Raising her head from her hand and focusing her eyes on her surroundings she grumbles under her breath. "What a way to wake up."

☄ IC

♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: YES. Lois is well versed on giving out hugs and friendly affection to those she likes. If she doesn't like you she'll let you know, trust me.
♚ FIGHTING: YES. Lois isn't shy about punching first. Or perhaps kicking?
♚ INJURY / VIOLENCE: YES. Please plot with me for anything more serious than scratches / bruises / black eyes or such.
♚ MIND-READING: SEE THE CONTENT WARNINGS SECTION.
♚ RELATIONSHIPS: YES. Lois has a fierce competitive streak but she honestly makes friends pretty easy!
♚ ROMANCE: YES. Within games it's unlikely Lois will move on from her babygirl Clark. She's utterly in love with him and she's already tried to give up on him through both disappointment and fear. She's sticking by him through thick or thin now and so will keep doing that in most games. That's not to say things can't change if I have castmates who aren't interested in the ship in-game. Please feel free to talk to me about it and we can figure out a good IC way to work things out!

In memes and PSLs I'm extremely open to AUs and other ships if you want. OOC-wise I'm a Clark/Lois fan but not everyone else is and I don't mind exploring. <3

☄ OOC

♚ BACKTAGGING: Yes. In general I'll tag memes / PSLs as long as I have inspiration for the thread. In games I'll keep backtagging for a month or so usually.
♚ FOURTHWALLING: Yep, go for it.
♚ THREADHOPPING: Go for it.
♚ OFF-LIMITS: No eye gore please.

☄ CONTENT WARNINGS

♚ ABANDONMENT: Lois' relationship with her father has been one punctuated with the feeling of abandonment. In many ways Lois is so fervent in what she does because she wants to gain her father's love alongside showing him she doesn't need him. Like Lois said in Two Lanes Diverged: "You’re never gonna get it, are you? My whole life, I’ve been making excuses for you, but it’s… It’s never going to change, is it? All you’ve ever wanted is for me to make it on my own. Okay, Dad, you win."
♚ MENTAL HEALTH: Lois has some hangups in how she sees herself chiefly due to her father's abandonment as well as how he feels a Lane should or shouldn't act. She was unable to be fully true with her emotions to him and in the back of her mind she often wondered if he left because she didn't fulfill something that he wanted from her. In some ways Lois is convinced that she needs to be able to count on herself first and foremost and that most everyone will leave her eventually -- except for Clark by the end of Season 2.
♚ VIOLENCE: My Adventures with Superman has a lot of fighting to it. The series is more focused on emotions and relationships than the fights themselves however.

☄ OPT-OUT

Please comment below if you wish to opt-out of one or more of these warnings. You can also opt-out of interacting with Lois altogether. All comments are screened.

ABILITIES & HISTORY:
Lois is human without any supernatural abilities. However she does have:

- A laundry list of survival skills. Her father took her on wilderness survival weekend trips to teach her how to track people, use a compass, find a path, set bones and purify water.
- Combat skills. She can throw a mean punch and a kick to boot. She's also been shown to have some knowledge of firearms.
- Investigation. She's great at snooping around and hooking clues up together to figure things out.
- Sewing. She's ripped enough of her own clothing to always carry a mini-sewing kit with her and she knows how to use it.

Also from the wiki:
"Lois is the daughter of USA General Sam Lane and unknown woman. Due to Sam's dedication to his military work, he was emotionally absent as a parent, so Lois was mostly raised by her mother. However, her mother eventually died of illness which she did not know until she realized her father kept it from her."

APPEARANCE

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

AURAL:
Lois' voice actress is Alice Lee.

DEMEANOUR:
Lois is all determination and fire ... most of the time. Her bullheaded ways and stubborn nature do lead to her hurting other's feelings which she never means to do.

OLFACTORY:
Lois tends to like perfumes with a bit of spice to them. Scents with a mix of vanilla, flowers and hints of pepper to them seem to be her favorites. A little sweetness, a little heat ... those fit her well. She's absolutely basic when it comes to shampoos or soaps though.

VISUAL:
Lois stands somewhere around 5' tall with a slim, athletic build.
